President's Message - October 14, 2022

Good evening members and retirees of USW Local 5328.

The committee met the company yesterday. We discussed several items. The arrival of the oil temper strapping machine, the furnace door and shutdown, and synching device for oil temper. 

 The company reported that business  conditions are still strong for 2023. 

 Cleaning tonnage is hurting right now and they will be meeting with all those involved in processing, cleaners, drivers, bundlers, mill spares to go over the process and best practice.

I would like to congradulate Lindsay Tait, granddaughter of retireed Brother Vern Lepine on winning this years Joe Crugnale Scholarship. Her essay was so well writen that I am pround to share it here with her permission. Well Done!!!!!!!

President's Message - August 28, 2022

Good evening members and retirees of USW Local 5328. 

 Well we have seen some issues in the plant this past week. Electrical issues have caused many work centers to go idle. This is a direct result of not spending the money to upgrade, maintain the sub stations and transformers over the last 10 or 20 years! 

 Rod is rolling in and Wiredraw is ramping up for next week.

Good Morning members and retirees of USW Local 5328.

Looks like rod has been an issue lately but the company is expecting delivery from other suppliers next week. Wiredraw should ramp up after next week. 

 Covid on the rise! Please follow proper protocols and sanitize your immediate work areas. Numbers are increasing and we need to stay safe!

Good day, this is a message to the retirees of Local 5328

 ArcelorMittal Hamilton East, Formely Stelwire, formerly Stelco Parkdale works , has sent information forms to all retirees and survivors.  

 The Local is in the process of obtaining information weather this is legal or not but in the mean time, if you have any issues or need help with the form, please contact the local at the number below.  

 The Local Union committee has your best interest at hand!!

President's Message - July 22, 2022

Good evening members and retirees of USW Local 5328.

 We’ve seen some brutal heat this past week and hopefully some relief soon!  Stay hydrated and if you feel or sense any symptom of heat exhaustion, get to a cool area immediately and notify your supervisor.  

 As far as the signing bonus, for those eligible, it will be paid on Thursday July 28. 

 The company is still in the process of hiring. If you know anyone interested, please see Akhil in HR.

President's Message - April 1, 2022

Good evening members and retirees of USW Local 5328.

 I’m sorry to report layoffs for next week, due  to the rod shortage. 

 I will quote the company’s info! As of 8:30 this morning! 

“We expect a two or three week layoff as we will receive the high carbon rod from Germany on or about April 11. It will take about 4 or 5 days to anneal, clean and draw the material for oil temper”.
