Good evening Sisters, Brothers, and Retirees,

The company has scheduled a couple of extra wiredraw frames  for next week, along with bundling on two shifts. They had hoped to also run 14 wiredraw frame ; however, upon inspection, significant mechanical issues were discovered. The company is aiming to get a more detailed assessment next week, which could lead to additional members being called back to work.

With the current up-crews, only two members are being brought back. Although the company initially intended to recall five members, the inability to run 14 wiredraw frame has limited this to two.

Today, the company informed me that they are giving their two weeks’ notice regarding putting frames 30, 31, and 34—with weigh-up booms—on a continuous rotation ( 12 hours ). While they are exploring options to maintain an 8-hour shift schedule and if successful this will leave wiredraw on 15 turn schedule (8 hours) , if not this move is necessary to protect the business relationship with our new customer, ITW. The notice is in accordance with our collective agreement.

Regarding medical benefits for laid-off members whose coverage has expired or is expiring: if you need to pay upfront for medication or dental services, please keep your receipts and a copy of your prescription, and notify me as soon as possible. The union is moving forward with arbitration on this matter and we are currently waiting for a date. I will share updates as they become available.

For those who have started receiving EI payments, if you have more than 18 months of service, you may qualify for SUB payments. I’ve outlined the eligibility and rules in previous emails. As a reminder, when sending proof of your EI payment from your Service Canada Account, make sure the screenshot includes your name and payment information. Please email it to:
