President's Message - April 17, 2020

Members and Retirees of Local 5328

 Good evening all.

The schedule is posted.  We tried to keep as many people as possible.

I’m sorry to say, this is one of the worse cut backs I have ever seen! We can thanks Covid for this!! We will be left with about 61 people in the plant and 94 laid off. The company feels it should be short lived for the most part. They feel that furnace, bundle and Wiredrawing should ramp up a bit in the next few weeks. That comes from sales to management to union. So let’s hope they are correct.

It looks like we should be able to collect the SUB pay with the changes to the CERB by way of Federal Government and should allow those that qualify to receive SUB pay without penalty. I am waiting for 100% confirmation but our Staff Rep says we should be fine. How sub works is, You receive a credit for every full 40 hour week you work after 18 months of service. Each credit will get you $150.00 per eligible week if fully funded, which it is. Once the fund hits 30%, the payment is reduced to $100.00 per eligible week.

We met the company this afternoon to discuss item 8 , .6 of the CBA.  It gives the company an opportunity to come up with incentives for those eligible to retire. At this time, they are waiving the 30 days notice only. They will revisit this in about a months time to see what market conditions look like.

 Stay strong, stay safe.

In solidarity,

Anthony Ciaramella
