President's Message - June 9, 2023

Good evening members and retirees of USW Local 5328.

The locals summer social last night was awesome and to see many retirees!! Congratulations to our newest retirees, Gary Ritchie and Russ Caswell! Health and happiness in your retirement!! A big thank you to our retirees that helped out, Terry Willock, Harvey Woodrow and our staff rep, Charlie Scibetta for helping out in the kitchen. Additional big thank you to Mike Hnatjuk for planning and organizing the event, as usual!!!

I am also pleased to announce the locals two new union stewards, George Haywood and local 5328’s first sister steward, Brandi Six. Thank you for stepping up to the plate and being active in our local.

The July shutdown is fast approaching! Saturday July 1, Canada Day will be observed on Friday June 30 for 8 hour workers. The shutdown will start from there into the following week. The new hires with little or no vacation may be required to work.

Business conditions seem to be steady going into the third quarter. Rod for 61 frame is still a bit of an issue but it is slowly coming in.

The original cap x money for the furnace door, that was to be repaired in October, has now been allocated to other projects. A new boiler and the rebuild of 62 frame, to name a few.

As a reminder, there are no membership meetings in the months of July and August. We will resume in September.

Information on the Labour Day parade and picnic will be communicated through email and posted on the union website  and  board.

Have a great and safe weekend!

In solidarity,

Anthony Ciaramella
President
