President's Message - October 14, 2022

Good evening members and retirees of USW Local 5328.

The committee met the company yesterday. We discussed several items. The arrival of the oil temper strapping machine, the furnace door and shutdown, and synching device for oil temper.

The company reported that business  conditions are still strong for 2023.

Cleaning tonnage is hurting right now and they will be meeting with all those involved in processing, cleaners, drivers, bundlers, mill spares to go over the process and best practice.

It was brought to our attention that HR is looking at everyone’s file on absenteeism. If you are over the Ontario Labour standard act allotted time off, 3 sick, 3 personal, you will probably be going on the note program. This is why I mentioned in last weeks communication about making sure your record has “authorized leave with or without pay” rather than “unjustified absence”. The company is also watching the lunch, break and shift relief. Make sure your relief is on the job and operating when you leave.

If you know of a brother or sister that is not on the email list, please ask them if they want to receive the emails and forward me their email.

Good luck to Aaron Harris and Brandon Janzen in the Stewards level 1 course next week! Our new Stewards will make us proud, I’m sure!!

Have a great and safe weekend!

In solidarity,

Anthony Ciaramella
President
