Good Morning members and retirees of USW Local 5328. 

Well we made it to the end of 2023!! Some ups and downs but we survived another year of being busy, not busy, shipping crazy amounts, not shipping anything! A couple of unfortunate accidents that were life changing, but we are resilient and will deal with it to make our workplace safer!!

Well the shutdown is upon us!! A much needed break!! 

 A reminder, Saturday July 1, Canada Day, will be observed today, Friday June 30 for 8 hour workers only. 

 For those working during the shutdown, if you are on a schedule of 8 or 12 hour shifts and being moved to another schedule, you are entitled to premium pay, overtime, for your first shift. Please check your pay statement after the shutdown.

 The locals summer social last night was awesome and to see many retirees!! Congratulations to our newest retirees, Gary Ritchie and Russ Caswell! Health and happiness in your retirement!! A big thank you to our retirees that helped out, Terry Willock, Harvey Woodrow and our staff rep, Charlie Scibetta for helping out in the kitchen. Additional big thank you to Mike Hnatjuk for planning and organizing the event, as usual!!!

It looks like most jobs are back up and running! Keep your fingers crossed! 

 Business for the first quarter of 2023 is very strong and the auto market is going well, that bodes well for us! 

 Training seems to be an issue. The committee tabled it with the company yesterday.  They have committed to continue training in the oil temper as to respect preferences. 

 Vacation booking will begin next week. Shutdowns for 2023 will be as follows.

Looks like maintenance found the issue with the new furnace door. Hopefully it will be up and running by the end of the weekend. 

 ArcelorMittal Director of sales, David Hudson, has secured some annealing for outside processing to be able supply our major customers. 

On the home page the Info for the Childrens Christmas party as well as the plant gate collection this Monday. All monies collected will be donated to Hamilton Food Share.

The committee met the company yesterday. We discussed several items. The arrival of the oil temper strapping machine, the furnace door and shutdown, and synching device for oil temper. 

 The company reported that business  conditions are still strong for 2023. 

 Cleaning tonnage is hurting right now and they will be meeting with all those involved in processing, cleaners, drivers, bundlers, mill spares to go over the process and best practice.
