President’s Message – March 28, 2025

Good Evening Sisters, Brothers, and Retirees.

With the ongoing tariff threats, unfortunately, there will be layoffs next week, affecting five employees so far. However, the company is still operating with 18 extra bodies, and decisions continue to be made on a week-to-week basis.

The Oil Temper business has continued to decline. At this point, they just have enough demand to sustain one production line. The OT stock area is full, and there have been no shipments to the U.S., which typically accounts for 60% of our oil-tempered business.

Good Evening Brothers, Sisters and Retirees

TSSA has passed everything, and the furnace is a go. The operators are working on introducing Rx gas into the furnance to get the seasoning going. The company is hoping for coils to be going through the furnace as early as Saturday night. Hopefully we start to see some normalcy throughout the plant.

The committee did meet with the company yesterday. They are still unsure what the future holds with the tariff threats but are working on a plan.

The end of the year is a time that we sit back and see what the past 12 months have brought us. 

We reflect on the great things that have happened as well as the challenging ones. It’s a time we see where the future is going and pursue it with hope.

Good evening members and retirees of USW Local 5328.

 The committee did meet with the company on Thursday. We dealt with a bunch of grievances and discussed the shutdowns for 2025. Hopefully first round of vacation picks will start in next couple weeks. The shutdowns are as follows:

 Summer / July Shutdown

For 12 hours  will start June 30th @ 7am and first scheduled shift back is July 14th @ 7am

Crews B/D will need 84 hours of vacation

Crews A/C will need 72 Hours of vacation

I am thrilled to announce that I have been hired by the USW as staff.

Good evening members and retirees of USW Local 5328.

Thanks to those that made it to the Labour Day Parade and picnic!! It was a fantastic day and nice to see some retirees!! 

I was informed this week that ArcelorMittal will be getting out of the PC Strand business for the balance of this year and all of 2025. It was reported that we are taking a loss on the product. There are no layoffs as a result and we are currently hiring.
